Skywatch Friday - Longwood Gardens in Gold

A beautiful goldfinch finds a treat of seeds within the seedpod of a Common Cup Plant.

"Common cup-plant is a native wildflower
 in the Asteraceae (daisy) family.
It may self-seed.
It typically grows to around 6',
however, can grow to reach 9' tall."

Hundreds of these Cup-Plants along a walkway near the Meadow created a dazzling display of gold at Longwood Gardens this week. We were able to spot this beautiful Goldfinch and many butterflies and bees. These photographs are part of Skywatch Friday

  1. Awesome shot getting that yellow colored bird in among the yellow flowers. I love it.

  2. I was thrilled. Now and then Goldfinches visit our yard, but they are very skittish, the smallest movement or sound and their off again. I hope to find a way to draw more to the yard. I've tried Niger seed, but they don't seem to find it. I will keep trying. Yes, it was a photo that thrilled me. I told my husband I need to paint it.
