The Bucket List - So You Want to Write a Book/What's Stopping You?

So many of us have thought at one time or another that we would like to write a book. I wanted to write a book most of my life. I always excelled in my creative writing classes. What stopped me?

  • Lack of time
  • Lack of confidence
  • Lack of proper tools
  • Reality - Very few books and authors accepted by publishers
  • Fear I was wasting my time
  • Fear of accidentally plagiarizing a story or book I had read
  • Fear of ridicule

  • Life got in the way

The list could go on and on, and if you have also wanted to write a book, you might have reasons that could be added to the list. Leave a comment on what has stopped you, and I'll accept your commenting as permission and add your reason to this post.

Over the next few days and weeks, I'll post how I moved past the above list. As someone who has written and published a book, I can say it was a life-changing experience. I'll share my journey, the highs and lows, and the uncertainties. This is a personal account of how I began, what I did over time, and the outcome.

In the time between now and the next post on this subject, look up Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing if you have a chance. Wikipedia has a good article on the aspects of the program.

  1. That is amazing you got to publish your book :-D Wonderful :-D

I used to do a lot of writing back in my teens, 20s and early 30s. Life got in the way and I stopped. I am trying to get back into it again. I don't think I've ever thought about getting a book published!

    1. It was a journey. I used a self-publishing site from Amazon. The application is free. You can order one book or millions. I would recommend it. I will be adding more to this topic over the course of the next few weeks. You can do it Ananka. I will be posting links. Thanks so much for the comment.
